This Friday was a beautiful summer night so before we headed out for Dining with Dad down to Tai’s Asian Bistro, we took the top down and the doors off the Jeep and enjoyed the drive through the city down to campus. I originally heard about this place at a July 4th party. I overheard a couple people saying how good it was and how large the portions are, that you can bring home the rest for an entire other meal. I had to check this out for myself!

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but when we walked in I quickly realized it wasn’t a sit down service type restaurant. There are huge lit up menu’s at the front of the kitchen where you order. You place your order and they will give you a pager and page you as each item comes up. There’s a vast menu so it was a little overwhelming for us all so we stood there for a while, continually telling people to pass us as we are still trying to figure out what we want.

We finally all decided and were ready to order. Since they had sushi, which is one of Chloe’s favorites, we decided to order one roll for Chloe and I to share. After looking them all over, we decided on the Pink Lady. Since this has shrimp in it which Alex can’t eat, I asked him if he wanted some Tuna Tataki instead, to which he agreed. The tuna was tasty but the sushi wasn’t the best. It came out really quickly which might be why it wasn’t the best. I would probably stick to the other dishes here.

Chloe was the first to decide what she wanted for her meal. She’s a big fan of the Lo Mein noodles so she went for that. To get the larger plate she went with the chicken combo. She said she isn’t a fan of non-fried chicken so she didn’t eat much of the chicken but more of the noodles. She let me try it and it was really good. I personally liked the chicken too. And as we had heard, the plates were HUGE! There was so much food on it, after eating her fill, Chloe’s plate still looked full!

Alex was having an issue deciding. He was looking at the Pho, which I was hoping he was going to get because I’ve never tried it before. He was asking me if “tendons” were any good, to which I had NO idea! I steered him away from that so he was going to get just the beef. But at the last second, right before we were going to order, he changed his mind and went with the Beef Pad Thai. It was also delicious! I think he ate even less than Chloe did as he also came home with a full box of food.

I was the last to decide. I wasn’t too sure about the Pho myself so I went for a tried and true dish, the Orange Peel Chicken. It came with red chili peppers which I had to try. Wow! Spicy!! But it was delicious with the fried rice and orange peel. I gave it my best shot but I too came home with a box of food. You definitely get your money’s worth with this place!
