Sapporo Sushi Factory
It had been a while since we had sushi so I took a look around and found Sapporo Sushi Factory. In looking at their website, I found a video where they provide 3 tips on how to eat sushi. It’s so funny how many Americans do ALL three wrong, including myself. Check it out and see how you fare when eating your sushi.
We arrived around 5:30 and were able to get seated right away. They brought us the customary water and we ordered some soft drinks at that time. When they arrived with glasses of ice and canned Sprite, the kids started chuckling. As they cracked them open and poured them in they commented something about it being “self-service”. I got a good laugh out of how funny they thought it was. We went ahead and put in an appetizer order of some pork dumplings so we could look over the vast amount of options on the menu.
It took the kids quite a while to figure out what they wanted. I found the sushi roll I wanted rather quickly. I went with the Texas Roll. Listen to the ingredient on this one!
Shrimp tempura topped with smoked
salmon, lime juice, baked mayo and
bacon
BACON!! I’ve never had bacon on sushi before but I can’t wait to have it again! It was magical! Chloe was the next to decide on hers. She wanted to get two so that she had some variety. So she got a shrimp tempura roll and then the Buckeye Roll. The Buckeye Roll was a fried one which are a nice change of pace, to have a warm sushi roll. It included tuna, salmon and avocado.
Alex was the last to decide. He has a shellfish allergy so he mentioned there was a few he wanted to try but needed to stay away from the ingredients. He ended up settling on the Crunchy Roll. This one includes
BBQ eel, avocado, cucumber and smelt
roe, topped with tempura flakes and eel
sauce
He surprised me a bit going for eel but I’m glad he did. We all tried it and all liked it. It was a first trying eel for all of us. Maybe the BBQ sauce drowned out the eel taste as I couldn’t really taste it. I’m not sure it would be something I would order but it certainly wasn’t bad, just not my favorite of the ones we ordered.
You might have spotted another dish in the picture above. When looking at the menu, something caught my eye that I just had to try. It was the pineapple fried rice which we ordered with chicken:
Pineapple, egg, carrot, corn, mixed
peas, onion, scallion, curry powder and
cashew nut
Chloe said she’d eat some so I ordered it which came out well before the sushi so it was like an extended appetizer. As Chloe was eating it she turned to me and gave me her unsolicited score of 10 out of 10!! I agree with her. My only change would be to add more pineapple as I think there were only maybe 4 little tidbits of pineapple in the entire dish. A few minutes later, Chloe mentioned that she must have eaten a pea on accident as she started reacting. We gave it a minute but then she asked if I had some allergy medicine in the Jeep. I’ve learned my lesson on this allergy and do carry some in the Jeep for this exact reason, so I went out to the parking lot and got her a Benadryl. Next time, we’ll get it with no peas from the beginning so we don’t have to deal with this!
