After going for a spur of the moment deviation last time, this week’s Dining with Dad was back to what was planned last time. I really hadn’t had good Italian since the Italy trip so we headed to Moretti’s over in Dublin to get some good homemade pasta!

When we arrived and asked for a table, the hostess asked if we had a reservation. I was a little worried that without one we might not get a table but luckily it wasn’t a problem. We didn’t have a wait and were seated right away. The kids both went with a lemonade and I went with my customary Chianti. Later in the evening Alex told me I had to try his lemonade so I took a drink. It was a bit strange. I couldn’t place my finger on the flavor until he said it tasted like cupcakes! It was lemony but yet had like a powder sugar taste to it?? It was different for sure. Not sure I would be able to drink much of it. Luckily I didn’t have to since I had my wine! When she brought our drinks she also gave us some bread to munch on while we looked over the menu.

I was still kind of settling in and didn’t have a chance to look at the menu much when Alex blurted out that they had Crab Cakes! That obviously got Chloe excited! I saw that while they had it as a dinner, they also had it as an appetizer. I asked Alex if he wanted to have some and he quickly decided he didn’t want to risk the swollen lips which he still seems to get since he has the shellfish allergy. Since he wouldn’t eat any of that we also ordered a Veal Meatball as an appetizer. Both were really good. The crab cake was about 95% crab and 5% breading. I thought it was great. Chloe liked it but said she kind of likes them with a bit more breading. If you like a ton of crab meat I’d highly recommend.

Chloe was the first to decide on her meal. If you are an avid reader of this blog, I think you can probably guess what she ordered. They had a choice of Pasta or Rigatoni which is what she picked right away. She said she wasn’t sure which she would choose though. I found it on the menu and explained her other choices with it which she didn’t see so she ultimately went with the meatballs and the……PASTA! As she ordered she was offered the choice of a soup or salad. Once they said that the soup was Wedding Soup I knew right away what she would choose and her face lit up a bit. She loves, loves, loves wedding soup. And she loved this one too which was HUGE! She also loved the pasta and brought most home as I think everything else just filled her up too much.

I was pretty sure I knew what Alex was going to get. He almost always goes with the lasagna which makes me go for something else just so we can all try something different. Surprisingly tonight he didn’t get the lasagna! He went for the Italian Plate! It’s quite the smorgasbord of Italian treats. Alex also went for the wedding soup as his option. I asked him what his favorite item was from his dish and he said the ravioli. I didn’t get to try any of his, mainly because I was full myself but he, like Chloe, brought most of his home so I’ll get to try some tomorrow.

Grilled chicken and sausage with peppers and onions. A side of pasta in red sauce and a cheese filled ravioli.

Last up was my decision. I think it’s rather obvious that since Alex didn’t get the lasagna that i would. There were quite a few options but I went with the traditional lasagna option. I kind of wanted the wedding soup too but part of the fun of this is to get different foods and share if we want. I went with the salad which was AMAZING! It had several different pasta’s on it plus some green beans and tomatoes. It’s one of the best salads I’ve had in a long time! The lasagna was obviously also amazing. As with all great restaurants, we were already talking about adding this one to our rewind list.
