Matt and Tony’s Wood Fired Kitchen
We’ve stayed close to home for the last couple Dining with Dad’s so I decided to find something a little further away for this week. So this week we traveled down to German Village and visited Matt and Tony’s Wood Fired Kitchen. Since the last DWD was not the best for Chloe, I made sure I knew there were things on the menu this time that she would enjoy. In other words, making sure there’s the chicken finger backup!
We went early as usual and had a reservation for 5pm. I wasn’t quite sure if it was necessary that early but I do think that it was. It was filling up fast as we came in and was full by the time we left. We were able to snag a booth next to the window which are comfortable and give you a bit of privacy. There’s a wall on the other side that splits the upper platform of booths with the lower area of tables.
We looked over the menu as we waited for our drinks. The kids got some Shirley Temple’s while I enjoyed a local beer. Our server recommended the Fork N’ Knife BBQ Ribs and so the kids were looking at the pictures in the online menu. They were both sold! Chloe ordered first and decided to replace the slaw with mashed potatoes. Alex wanted to be just like her so he ordered exactly the same. They both did the half-rack which was a perfect portion. I got a few morsels but they pretty much ate them all. They were cooked to perfection and just fell off the bone. I would definitely recommend the ribs!
Megan and I had just gone to Cap City Diner the weekend before because she kept raving about the pork chops. I normally don’t get pork chops because I’ve had such a bad experience with at home cooked pork chops. They were delicious at Cap City and I’ll be getting those again. With this recent experience, I decided to try the pork chops. Hindsight, I wish I hadn’t. They were ok, but nothing spectacular. They were somewhere between home cooked dry pork chops and juicy melt in your mouth pork chops like Cap City. While I didn’t enjoy them the most, it wouldn’t stop me from going back. I’d definitely love to go back and try more.
The kids did manage to save a little room for dessert. After some discussion they decided on the Key Lime Pie. None of us had much room so we decided to just split it. It was a very good Key Lime pie in my opinion. It capped of a very nice dinner for us all.
