I was looking through our past locations and the various cuisines we’ve had and realized that we hadn’t visited a Mexican style restaurant in over a year. We had to squeeze in Dining with Dad on Wednesday before Chloe’s art class at 6:15pm so it had to be something fairly close to us. After a little searching, I found Lafogata Grill over in Pickerington.

We were seated right away and started looking at the menu. After finding out they had a deal on drafts for Happy Hour, I ordered a Modelo, which they didn’t have on draft. He recommended the Dos Equis Ambar, which I hadn’t had before, so I went with that. I would have that again as it was very tasty! They brought the complimentary chips and salsa over right after our drinks that we munched on while deciding what to order.

I had looked at the menu before we went and saw that they had ceviche. I knew the kids hadn’t ever had it before so I wanted to mention it to them and see if they were willing to try it. I explained what it was and they were both down with trying it. It was a success as they both liked it. We had to go with the fish over the shrimp with Alex’s allergy so that was a first for me as I’d only had shrimp before. I think Chloe liked the chunks of avocado more than the fish but all in all they were both happy with the appetizer.

Anytime we go to a Mexican restaurant, Chloe always goes to the tacos. I noticed during my preview of the menu that they had more taco options than many places so I figured she’d find something she’d like. There were enough options that she was actually between two, having a difficult time picking which one. She was looking at the Tacos Al Pastor and the Tacos De Barbacoa. Ultimately she decided on the Tacos De Barbacoa. Her only complaint really was the corn tortillas. She mentioned to me that the tacos had a funny taste to them and had me try a bite. I knew right away that it was the tortilla as the corn taste was very strong. I had her try just the inside toppings without the tortilla and she liked that much much more. She likes corn over flour, but not the soft tortillas.

It was nice having the appetizer as it gave us time to come up with what we wanted. Alex too was having a difficult time selecting just the right meal for the evening. He finally settled on the Enchiladas Rancheras. I wasn’t sure if he’d be down with something with mushrooms but he liked it alot. The sauce wasn’t a traditional enchilada sauce and I thought was a really good dish. I’d probably try that one next time.

I typically like to find something with pineapple. They have a couple dishes with pineapple but wasn’t quite the combination I was looking for. After looking around for a bit, I finally settled on the Pollo En Fuego. I was feeling something a little spicy. While the spice wasn’t very high, it was still very good. I was able to pack the tortillas with a ton of chicken which is always good on arm day.
