I gave the kids the choice of cuisine this week between Italian or Mexican. I thought for sure they would choose Italian but to my surprise they went with Mexican. I was thrilled because we certainly don’t do enough Mexican on our Dining with Dad evenings. For Mexican I had La Loma picked out, over in Upper Arlington.

We were seated right away and given the customary free chips and salsa. We ordered our drinks and decided on whether or not to get an appetizer. Of course, there was guacamole on the menu so we HAD to get some. They had an option between spicy or mild and the kids went with mild. I’d love to go back and try the spicy.

Along with the guacamole, we also got a little dish of cole slaw which was also on the house. I can’t think of a time I’ve had cole slaw at a Mexican restaurant but it was really good!

Chloe was definitely the first to figure out what she was going to get. When I offered Italian or Mexican, she asked me if where we were going had Hard Shell Taco’s on the menu. She’s not a fan of flour tortillas and hard shell corn tortilla’s are her go to dish. So as expected, she ordered the 3 hard tacos with just lettuce and ground beef. She said they were really good and didn’t save me a bite!

Alex took a bit to finally decide on what he wanted. He’s always the wild card so I kind of expected him to get something a bit different but he went with taco’s as well. He went with the Birria Tacos. I think the brisket is what attracted him as he’s been on a real brisket kick lately. He let me have a bite and they were wonderful. His only complaint, which I could see, was that the shells were a bit too greasy. Other than that they were excellent.

I too had a rough time deciding. I was back and forth on a few different things and then saw something that I hadn’t had in a very long time. It won out and I went with the Chimichangas. There’s just something about a deep fried burrito that screams delicious and this did not disappoint. My only complaint, which is just a personal preference, was that their refried beans were made with pinto beans instead of black beans. Other than that everything was delicious!
