La Chatelaine French Bakery & Bistro
For those that don’t know, Alex left Jersey Mike’s (no more discount 😢) and has started working at 101 Beer Kitchen. With his new job, he hasn’t worked there long enough yet to be able to get requested days off so he had to work Friday night, our normal Dining with Dad night. So we had to push this week’s DWD to Saturday. So after watching Ohio State take care of business with Purdue, we headed over to La Chatelaine French Bakery & Bistro in downtown Worthington.
We walked in and clearly looked a bit confused as to what to do exactly. We walked up to the counter and asked about seating ourselves or if we were supposed to wait. It was then that we got the low down on the style of restaurant this was. It is a cafeteria style restaurant and you can sit at any open table. She gave us some menus that we could take to a table and figure out what we wanted. After we all decided, I went up and ordered. There wasn’t much that we ordered that was pre-made so they gave us a table marker to sit at our table and they would bring it out when it was ready.
Alex was the first to decide what he wanted so we’ll start with him. As he joked about trying the Escargot, he passed on that since he couldn’t convince Chloe to have some too if he got it. Instead he ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon. If you’re like me, you have zero clue as to what that is. It is Ohio Beef, Carrot, Onion, Mushroom & Puff Pastry Mashed Potatoes in Burgundy Wine Sauce. It was such a hearty dish and Alex loved it. He said he’d get it again. He really liked the Puff Pastry Mashed Potatoes.
Anyone spot Chloe in the background? She was going to get another fork. She had me worried for a while on this Dining with Dad. She had trouble finding a dish that she wanted. She wanted to try something “french” but nothing really sounded good to her. She thought about a Baguette sandwich but after asking what comes on it (only butter and caesar dressing) she passed on that idea. Before we went I saw something on the menu that I knew she likes and I mentioned it to her but she was anxious about getting something that wasn’t “french”. She was even talking about getting nothing which really had me in the dumps as I hate to fail on these Dining with Dad’s. However……..she finally decided to go with the Spaghetti à la Gigi. And the best part was that she said it was one of the best she’s ever had. This really turned things around in a hurry!
I knew that I wanted some soup and was feeling like eating light. Therefore I went with the 3 course combo, Petite Caesar Salad, a Cup of Soup & Hard Roll Sandwich. For the soup I chose the French onion (obviously). For the sandwich, I went with the Italian Prosciutto & French Brie. I added some cheese and croutons for $1 to the soup, as what monster eats French Onion soup without those! Everything was delicious and hit the spot for an early evening meal.
While we were waiting on our food to come out, we went over to the pastry counter as they told us when we came in that just because something is on their menu, doesn’t mean it’s available. They said that only what we see in the case is what’s still available for the day. Chloe mentioned not wanting to lose something because we were eating so we went and ordered what we wanted and sat it on the table next to us until we were finished with our dinner. It was so hard to decide on what to get that we went with a few options and then everyone shared. We also got a box and brought most of it home with us as we were too full to eat them all. They were all so fresh and delicious!! I’d love to stop in again for more.
