Jimmy V’s Grill & Pub
Going to Jimmy V’s this week was a bit of a last minute decision. A few weeks ago I realized that the kids would be with me for St. Paddy’s day and I thought that it would be fun to try some Irish cuisine for Dining with Dad. I had picked out the location even but didn’t do much research on it until the morning of. Turns out, due to the massive drinking that American’s do on this date, it was 21 and over this day. I started looking for other options but those were also not kid friendly. So be on the lookout sometime this summer for an Irish joint as I still want the kids to try some Irish cuisine.
I’ve had Jimmy V’s on the radar for a while and when searching for restaurants that have Reubens so I could have my corned beef and cabbage, I found this on their menu. Being that it was so cold out and I didn’t want to travel far, this also worked out to head over to Pataskala instead of going all the way to Dublin! We were greeted as soon as we walked in and were told to sit anywhere we wanted. The kids went and found a nice booth around the corner from the entrance.
We got there just after 5pm and they were doing their shift change at the time. After about 10 min, our server Margy showed up who was the one that greeted us. She apologized about how they forgot about us and offered us free drinks for the inconvenience. The kids started with Sprite until Margy reminded that that drink were on her so they stepped it up to some Shirley Temple’s with cherries! I had to take advantage as well and grabbed a tall beer.
I’ll start with my selection since I already gave it away as to what I was going to get. I did end up getting the Reuben. I can’t recall the last time I had one and after tasting it I don’t know why I wait so long between them. There’s something about corned beef, sauerkraut and thousand island dressing that just works!! I’m also a fan of rye bread and only have it when I get a reuben so that was also a nice perk. I went with the chips that come with it which were very good as well. I asked the kids if they wanted to try some and Alex said no, that he didn’t like kettle chips. I talked him into having one and he immediately asked for more after trying it.
Chloe isn’t much of a sandwich or burger person so her selection was a bit more limited. She asked about the Panini and what it was and given that it’s pretty much a sandwich she decided against that. She ended up going to one of her favorite dishes and got the kids spaghetti. She added a side of fries to round out her meal. Unfortunately, she didn’t care for the spaghetti. She mentioned how it was kind of “blah” and I thought it was the lack of marinara on it. To understand what she meant I tried it and I see what she was talking about. It almost tasted like an herb pasta with a sprinkling of marina on it. I think we wouldn’t recommend that dish for anyone reading.
I wasn’t sure what Alex was going to go with. I saw and mentioned to him that they have gyro’s which I know he really likes. He liked Cafe Istanbul and the lamb from there so much that he ordered it with DoorDash one night he was working at Jersey Mike’s. He didn’t end up with they gyro but rather went with the Saganaki Burger. Reading the description you’ll see that it’s along the same lines however:
Our burgers are always fresh, hand made all beef. Served with our seasoned JV’s pub chips. Hand made lamb & all beef burger topped with our flaming Saganaki cheese, mixed greens, tomatoes, pickled cucumbers & Tzatziki on the side.
I wanted him to try my Reuben, to which he agreed, and so we swapped a bite of each of ours. I was a fan of the burger as he was as well. I think you can put Tzatziki sauce on anything and make it delicious! I may or may not have stolen a few of his fries and dipped it into the Tzatziki!
