Hubbard Grille
This week we headed downtown to Hubbard Grille. Today was the first day of the year with temperatures in the 80’s which made for a great night to head downtown. It gave us the opportunity to walk the streets a bit after dinner which is always good for the waistline! We arrived a bit before our reservation but were able to get seated at the upstairs bar area. The kids both loved that because we had a table right at the front, so they could overlook the entire restaurant. We all enjoy our people watching!
We made it in time for the last part of Happy Hour. I of course went with a $5 Hubbard Ave Lager (or maybe more than one). We all looked over the appetizers that were on Happy Hour special and decided to try the Jalapeño Corn Bread. I wasn’t sure how spicy it was going to be but figured the maple honey butter might cool it down. It turned out not to be spicy, but just full of Jalapeño flavor. We all loved it.

While we munched on the corn bread, we took a look at the menu. We were in no rush since we got there a bit early so we just really enjoyed our time deciding on what we wanted. Chloe was the first to decide. Well, I actually had a couple things in mind but wanted to see what the kids were getting first so we didn’t double up on the same dish. She surprised me a little bit by looking to the sandwich part of the menu. She’s not usually into sandwiches but apparently the Fried Chicken Sliders just caught her eye. I unfortunately didn’t get to try them as she gobbled them up (she asked and I declined a bit as it didn’t look to be much there). She said they were delicious. Her only complaint, which was slight, was that the chicken didn’t fill the bun so sometimes she got bites of just bun. I get how that’s a bummer!

Alex took a little bit longer to decide on his entree. In fact when the server came back, he had Chloe and I go first to take the few last seconds to make up his mind. He ultimately went with the Pork Chop, which I didn’t ask him, but I think he might have done because he just tried the new pork chop from 101 Craft Kitchen where he works and loved it. I’ll have to see if this was his reason and which one he liked better. He let me have a bite and it was delicious, well cooked and juicy, which is very important for pork.

Again, I was definitely looking at a dish that I thought Chloe might order so some avid readers I’m sure might have a guess when looking at the menu. I was looking hard at the fried chicken but ultimately went with the Salmon. The plan was that Chloe and I might share a bit, which I did let her have some salmon but again her sliders were so small I didn’t want to take any away from her. The salmon was fantastic but so were the fixings that came with it. In fact, they were so good I could eat them by themselves and still be happy. I’m going to call this one my favorite salmon dish of all time. They did a fantastic job putting this one together!
