This week’s Dining with Dad took us to Hiro Ramen & Tea. It was a long time coming as it was scheduled to be last month. When I originally had this planned, Megan decided to make Ramen at home midweek, so I didn’t want to have it twice in one week so I pushed it back.

This place was a bit unique. As soon as you walk in, there’s directions on the wall on how to order. You seat yourself and you bus your own tables. When you sit down, there’s a QR code on the table that brings up an ordering menu. I took everyone’s order, plugged it in and then paid. Within a few minutes, our server brought us our cups for our drinks.

The kids were so excited to see the robots delivering the food. There were a couple of them working the entire restaurant. Shortly after we got our drinks the robot brought us our appetizer. We all love dumplings so we got one order of those to split. Getting six worked out great as we all were able to have two.

Chloe looked over the menu for a while trying to decide what to get. She finally asked me which one would be most like the ramen we make at home. I told her it would probably be the chicken one so that’s what she went for. She’s not a big fan of grilled chicken but she did eat some of it. I’m sure she would have preferred if it came with fried chicken instead but she still liked it.

Thick chicken broth served with grilled chicken, wood ear mushroom, marinated bamboo shoot, scallions, ajitsuke egg, and cabbage.

Alex was much faster at picking which ramen bowl he wanted. He went for the Tonkotsu Ramen which was the first one listed on the menu. It had this thing called naruto in it which we had to lookup and see what it was. It’s a “fish cake” apparently. It’s the white things with the pink swirl on it. Chloe tried one as well but I don’t think either of them cared for them. But Alex did like the ramen bowl.

I wanted to go for something spicy. I started looking at the Spicy Tan Tan which came with spicy crumbled sausage but at the last minute decided to go with one with pork belly. I ended up going for the Spicy Miso Ramen. I looked through the options when ordering and you can ask for extra spicy so I went for that. It was just the right amount of spice for me. It was delicious. Chloe thought it looked so good she even asked for a bite. I think the spice surprised her a little but she liked it too.
