Firebirds

Firebirds is a wood fire grill located in Columbus, Ohio. When we arrived, there was a lemonade stand setup, which appropriately for Alex was named Alex’s Lemonade Stand. We had no clue why it was there upon arriving but then it all made sense once we checked out the menu. The lemonade they offer is known as Alex’s lemonade, hence the stand. Alex obviously had to try it and said it was very good.

Even before walking in, you could smell the smoke in the air. The pleasant smell continued once inside. There’s just something about a wood fire that is both relaxing and when cooked with, is very appetizing. We were hoping this was the case with this restaurant.

While we waited for our food, we took a moment to take in the atmosphere. It was relatively quiet inside and not overly crowded. We were comfortably seated in a booth, next to this horse sculpture which Chloe obviously loved being such an animal lover.

In short order, our food arrived. Chloe went for the ribs which she’s come to love over the last year or so. She increasingly gets this when it’s found on the menu. They had a nice kids portion that was just the right size for her appetite. She was able to finish them all.

Chloe is usually the one to get meatloaf, and if not her, then me. Surprisingly, Alex ordered the meatloaf which is very rare for him to do; in fact, I believe this is the first time he’s ever ordered this at a restaurant. While he wasn’t able to finish it all, he did enjoy it. I don’t think he’d get it again, but at least he didn’t eat two bites and say he wasn’t hungry anymore!

For me, I went for the salmon. It also came with some delicious vegetable medley and some cheesy potatoes. The food was delicious. The only critique I could make was that the filet was a little butchered in the presentation in that it was falling apart a bit on the plate. Had it been intact, this would have been a perfect meal. It would be hard for me to try something else if I return as I like to stick to a meal I like in fear that if I switch, I may not like it as well. If you ever are at Firebirds, I’d definitely recommend the salmon.
