DK Diner
How long has it been since we’ve had breakfast food for Dining with Dad? Clearly it’s been long enough that I don’t remember off hand. The kids love diner atmospheres so I’m not sure why I don’t seek them out more often. This week we headed over to DK Diner in Grandview. They have extended their restaurant by having a temporary outdoor enclosure with clear plastic walls. We sat inside but Alex commented on how he liked it when people opened the door as the heat from the propane heaters outside drifted in towards our table and felt nice and warm.
The diner is a seat yourself place. It’s also a serve yourself on drinks as they have coffee pots and soda machines along the wall. We went up and got our drinks as we then looked over the menu to decide what we wanted. The waitress visited our table several times as it took the kids a while to decide what they wanted.
As is customary, Chloe ordered first. She wasn’t quite sure what to get. At first she said she didn’t want anything sweet so she looked at the lunch type items instead. However, she came back around to getting breakfast. I pointed out the pancakes and she said she didn’t want those because they didn’t come with potatoes which she really wanted. I told her she could get them a’la carte but she decided to go with the French Toast which came with them. She had the choice between the home fries or hash browns and went with the latter. She wasn’t sure if she’d like the french toast but she did!

Two slices of thick Texas toast dipped in house made cinnamon spice batter and your choice breakfast meat or potatoes.

Alex was next up. Chloe and I had our decisions made fairly quickly but Alex just couldn’t seem to decide. He knew he wanted breakfast but couldn’t decide what type. He was looking at the hash’s and mentioned them and I thought he was going for that when he finally decided. However he surprised me by going for the DK All the Way. I didn’t get a bite but it looked delicious and he liked it as he was a clean plater.

The DK tradition: Two eggs over easy, Canadian bacon and home fries served on a biscuit and covered in gravy

I too had a bit of a time deciding what to get. I thought to myself as I looked at the menu, “why didn’t i look before we came and make my decision?” I had it narrowed down to one of the hash’s but kept going back and forth between the Chorizo hash and the Brisket hash. Ultimately the spice won me over on my decision and so I went for the Chorizo hash. It was delicious! Both kids tried it and like it, although it was a bit too spicy for them. I’d love to go back and try the Brisket one though as it also sounded fanstastic.

Grilled chorizo hash, sauteed onions and peppers and topped with chipotle hollandaise and avocado. All hash comes w/ Two over easy eggs and choice of toast.
