Condado Tacos
We hadn’t been to a Mexican restaurant in a while so I was trying to decide where to go this week. I had another option chosen, but asked Chloe if she wanted to try a new one I hadn’t been to, or if we should go with one that I’ve tried before and know is good. She went with the latter so we ended up at Condado this week for Dining with Dad. The kids had been to Condado once before when they were much younger and weren’t fans, but I know it’s so good so I decided to take the leap and try again now that they are older.
As always, we arrived early, which was great as we were there for Happy Hour. I was able to enjoy a couple house margarita’s for only $6/piece. The kids ordered the lemonade but were sadly disappointed when they came back and told us it was unavailable because “the lines were frozen”. Clearly they weren’t getting freshly squeezed lemonade! While we looked over the menu and figured out what we wanted, we went ahead and snacked on an order of guacamole. I’m so glad the kids love it as much as I do.
Chloe likes her tacos very simple so she went the build your own route. She was looking at the ground beef but noticed the little fire symbol next to it so she decided on the pork, which is what she gets when she goes to Chipotle so pork tacos are in her wheelhouse. She’s a crunchy taco gal, so she went with the original corn tortillas. She topped it with just lettuce and rice. While they were simple, she loved them. She ordered a side of the rice as well but didn’t really care for it. She said it was rather plain tasting.
I knew Alex would go for a more elaborate taco. I wasn’t sure if he’d build his own or go with a pre-built one though. After I was done helping Chloe figure out hers, I asked Alex if he had decided and he had. His first choice was the Plain Jane. This comes with a Kewl Ranch shell, roasted chicken, fajita peppers + onions, lettuce, tomatoes, Middlefield smoked cheddar, and salsa verde. His second was the Blue Dream. This comes with a Flour soft + Kewl Ranch shells with queso blanco, ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado ranch. Both had the Kewl Ranch shell, which I think was one of the decision points for him as he’s really been into ranch flavor lately. He also ordered a side of the street corn which doesn’t show up on the Online menu. He really liked the Plain Jane but wasn’t a fan of the Blue Dream. He didn’t like the street corn either. I may or may not have tried both of those. If I did eat them, I’m sure that both were actually very good. ๐
I usually build my own taco’s but after looking at some of their pre-built options, I decided to give them a try. If there’s a time limited special and it sounds good, I always go with it. They currently have a Chicken Bacon Ranch taco that I figured I had to try. This comes with Flour soft Kewl Ranch shell with smoked cheddar queso, roasted chicken, crispy bacon, shredded lettuce, diced roma tomatoes, and avocado ranch. I’m a huge fan of brisket and spicy food, so for my second choice I went with the Sweet Heat. This comes with Flour soft + hard corn shells with queso blanco, braised beef brisket, cilantro onions, Middlefield smoked cheddar, pineapple salsa, habanero-mango sauce, and chipotle honey sauce. I also ordered a side of the bacon refried beans. I think the Sweet Heat was my favorite of the two. The chicken bacon ranch needed more bacon! Imagine that; more bacon! Still, it was a very nice meal, with the very best company.
They no longer have the one I liked, starts with a “J”, so I don’t go there anymore! ๐
I was not impressed at all with Condado. Mediocre at best.
