I know the kids have Latin food on the bottom of their list of cuisines but I thought Chile Verde might be a good one to try. Looking at their menu, it seemed a little different than some of the typical restaurants we’d been to. I didn’t get any complaints when we showed up so I was hoping this would be a success. I think sometimes large menus make it overwhelming for the kids and what I liked about this is that Chile Verde’s menu isn’t that large, only a front and back page.

We were seated right away in the last booth available. I noticed they had a little Happy Hour menu on the table so I took a quick look at it. We quickly decided that we’d share some guacamole as we always do but I noticed that they had a Happy Hour deal on dips. We started looking at them to decide if we wanted to try another one but then realized that their Happy Hour runs from 2-5pm! We didn’t get there until about 5:20 so we just stuck with our guac.

I had looked at the menu before going obviously and thought Chloe would immediately gravitate towards some certain dishes but she was having a difficult time deciding. I ended up pointing out a couple things and she finally was able to decide. She went for the create your own entree. She got the crab cake and two tacos, one with spicy ground beef and one with pork. She loves the rice so she asked for double rice instead of rice and beans. Even though the spicy ground beef was apparently truly spicy, she at the whole thing! But then she thought the pork was spicy too. I tried it and didn’t think it was so I’m guessing her mouth was just still on fire so she couldn’t tell. She liked the crab cake though and ate most of it. I got the last bite and it was really good.

Alex was also having a difficult time finding what he wanted. I thought for sure by having the smaller menu that it would help them decide but apparently that was not the case. He didn’t really discuss what he was looking at and I was busy trying to help Chloe figure out her meal so I’m not sure what he was deciding between. He ultimately decided on the Fajita Burrito. Once he heard that you could do double rice, he went with that option as well. He stuck with the marinated chicken as his protein choice. I didn’t try his but he seemed happy with his choice.

If Chloe didn’t get the Green Chile Crab Cake I was going to get it just so we could both try it. Since she did end up going with it that freed me up for something else. Having looked at the menu before we went, I already knew that I was going with the Hawaiian Fajita. Chorizo….yummm….Chicken…yummm..Shrimp….yummmm…. It was fantastic! My only critique would be the pineapple salsa. There was just maybe a teaspoon of it on top of the bowl that had the cheese and lettuce in it. I would have liked to have maybe an entire salsa dish with it. Maybe next time I’ll ask for more.
