I know that Mexican isn’t the kids’ favorite cuisine but I was really in the mood for it this week. I have learned from past experiences that there’s specific food that the kids like versus what they don’t so I was able to preview Chapala Mexican Grill and knew that they would like this one. And as a bonus, it’s located in downtown Worthington which the kids love to visit to walk around.

We got a late start this week as Alex wanted to head to Hobby Lobby after school to grab some special cleaner to remove stains that transfer from dyes from other clothes. He learned his first lesson in washing something red with his other clothes. In his defense, I’ve never seen something bleed so badly as this sweatshirt he bought online. It’s been washed about 6 times and is still bleeding terribly. The good news is that the stuff actually worked and he saved all his clothes. The bad news was we barely made happy hour! LOL. But since we did, I obviously went with their special margarita.

We were able to get seated right away so we decided to get an appetizer while we looked through the menu. Given that we all are fans of guacamole, it made the decision easy! We also snacked on the complementary chips and salsa.

Alex was the first one to figure out what he wanted. I pointed out a couple things to him, hoping he’s get them so I could try them but he decided on something else. He went with Enchiladas Mexicanas, which is three different types of enchiladas and different sauces. Alex made a joke that it looked like the Irish Flag! I’d have to agree.

One ground beef enchilada with red salsa, one shredded beef enchilada with melted cheese and one shredded chicken enchilada with green sauce. Served with rice lettuce, sour cream and tomatoes

I turned my attention to helping Chloe find something that she would like. Again, I looked an knew that they had hard shell tacos before we went so I pointed her towards those. The last place we went they didn’t have that option and only had soft corn tortillas which she thinks taste awful. She ordered the Tacos De Carnitas with the mexican rice. She loved them so I was relieved.

With all this work helping everyone find something to eat, I found my margarita empty! I decided to go for another but to give it a little spice so I ordered a Jalepeno Margarita. It was perfect!

I’m a sucker for ordering the same thing at every mexican restaurant if I can find the combination. I looked and looked an finally found what I was looking for. There’s something about chicken, chorizo, and pineapple that just WORKS! I’d have to look back at old Dining with Dad’s but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what I got each time. Here the dish was called Choripollo and it was delicious!

Afterwards, the kids wanted to walk around Old Worthington which I was glad to do as I was STUFFED! I had to snap at least one pic of them. It was a very nice Dining with Dad with the kids.
