This week we were on vacation down in Topsail Beach, NC. We decided earlier in the week that if there was some rain on a day during vacation that we’d spend some of that time in a car and travel down to Wilmington. It just so happened that on Friday, our Dining with Dad day, that it was raining around dinner time but was supposed to stop around dinner time. I gave the kids a couple options and they decided on Bourbon Street.

We arrived right around 5pm so it wasn’t crowded when we arrived. We were able to get seated right away at the table of our choosing. As you can see, the restaurant is decked out in New Orleans decor, giving you the feel that you are on the real Bourbon Street (or at least I assume as I’ve never been there yet!)

Chloe was hoping to get the crab cake appetizers. I had shown the kids the menu before we went so she had been thinking about it all day. I’m sure you know what’s coming. Yep, they were out of crab cakes. She settled for the shrimp and fries which came in a much larger portion size than she was anticipating. That worked out well for me because I got to have some of it!

Alex took a bit of time deciding on what he wanted. Their menu has many different options so I don’t blame him. It’s no Cheesecake Factory menu or anything but just various food categories to look over before deciding. He finally decided on the Company Burger, a 1/2 pound burger with Bacon, Coleslaw, Pickles and Creole Remoulade. He too had trouble eating it all, so again I got to try it. We both really liked the Creole Remoulade that came on it.

My choice is actually not listed in their online menu. It was called the Ultimate Fried Chicken Sandwich. I couldn’t quite remember what all was on it so I Googled it and found the sandwich on GrubHub for this restaurant. The description was: Tossed in Cajun Buffalo Parm Garlic with coleslaw, pickles, Creole Remoulade, pepper jack cheese and bacon! I decided to go with the onion rings as my side which reminded me of the breading on Chloe’s chicken strips from Kitchen Social that were so delicious. These were easily the best onion rings I’ve had. All in all, a very delicious meal!

We were all so stuffed after dinner that we walked around historic Wilmington around the riverfront. We wanted to stop by Kilwins for ice cream but just didn’t have room. So we walked around for an hour or so visiting the local market and just enjoying the evening. Sorry, I didn’t get any pictures of the ice cream but it was delicious as always!
