Tonight’s Dining with Dad was a bit of a pivot. I had our location picked out earlier this week and was looking forward to the cuisine. When we arrived and the kids saw the restaurant, they were excited too. I was curious as to why the parking lot seemed rather thin which we figured out as we walked up to the door.

Luckily this restaurant was in a place with many other restaurant options, but none of which I had previously researched. So we headed back to the air conditioning of the Jeep while I searched for some options. I came across Atlas Tavern and took a quick glance at their menu. I asked Chloe and Alex if they were up for some pub fare and they were in! So we headed over to check it out.

We were able to get seated right away. Not knowing anything about Atlas Tavern I noticed that the bar was completely full which for me was a good sign. The kids ordered their drinks while I went through their draft list until I found a nice IPA that was on happy hour (not all drafts are priced for happy hour). I asked the kids if they wanted any appetizers but I think they were excited to get right to their meals so they passed.

Chloe was the first to figure out what she wanted. Going back to the appetizers, she actually did mention getting hand cut fries as an appetizer but then I let her know that if she was getting a burger that it could come with fries so she passed on the appetizer version. She went with the Woodford Burger, with no cheese of course. She asked my opinion of whether I thought she’d like it which I figured the whiskey taste wouldn’t be strong so I figured she’d like it from the BBQ sauce. I was surprised by how much she liked it! She was already talking about when she comes back she’s getting the exact same thing! She let me have a small bite and it was delicious. I told her I might get that one next time too!

Alex was next up to decide. To be fair though, they were looking at the menu while I was still picking out my beer. He too went with a burger and ordered the Atlas Tavern Signature Burger. He also got fries and when he ordered his our server mentioned that you could get them with parmesan or cajun seasoning so he took her up on that and went with parmesan.

Swiss cheese, sautéed onions, and black garlic aioli. Black garlic is a clove roasted for 40 days over a very low temperature. It has a sweet, dense flavor, packed with umami!*

Finally it was up to me to decide. While they do have other options other than burgers, their burgers sounded delicious. Also, the last burger I had out was at a hotel in Italy and it was literally just a hamburger patty on a plate! I was ready to make up for that and get something fantastic. I went with the Frita Cubana! Alex mentioned that he was looking at this one too so I asked him if he wanted to go 50/50 with our burgers which he agreed. Since Alex went with parmesan seasoning, I went with the cajun seasoning so we could try them both. Both seasonings were good, not overwhelming at all. And the burger was fantastic! We all agreed that this was a spot we have to revisit soon!

This burger used to be served at baseball games in Cuba before the communist revolution. It is a burger that was almost lost to history! A beef and chorizo grilled patty grilled in a Cuban glaze and topped with Swiss cheese, sweet hot pickles, crispy potatoes, and Cubana burger sauce*
