Alqueria
For the first Dining with Dad of 2025, we headed to Alqueria down in University district. We already had snow from earlier in the week so the ground was covered. We were seated at a table right by the window and shortly after we sat down, it started snowing again. It was a perfect setting for our first Dining with Dad of the year.

We were seated right away as it was still fairly early in the evening. As we waited for our drinks, we looked over the appetizer menu. Most of the appetizers were cheese related so those were a no go for obvious reasons. I mentioned the brussel sprouts and Alex was on board. We had to talk Chloe into it a bit but she agreed. They were Amazing! These were the best I think I’ve ever had.

While we snacked on the delicious sprouts, we all decided on our entrees. I had several that I was looking at and told the kids I was waiting to see what they got before I chose mine. Chloe was wanting to know my choices to see if it would help her decide. After I gave her the rundown, she chose one of the dishes I was thinking of getting. She went with the Blackened Salmon. She said it was the best salmon she’s had anywhere. She let me try it and I tend to agree. It was cooked perfectly and the vegetables on the dish with it were fantastic.

red skin potato & butternut squash hash, cranberry gastrique

I know I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again, I love that Alex tries to go out of the norm and try new things. He could have gone with some of the normal dishes like salmon or chicken but instead he went for the duck. He let us all try it and it was really good too. It might not be the dish I would choose, but Alex loved it which is all that matters.

The duck wasn’t on my list of dishes I was going to try so it didn’t eliminate that from my choices. The salmon was on my list so I wasn’t going to get that since Chloe did. So I was down to the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, the short ribs and the pork chop. Ultimately I went with the grilled pork chop. It was fantastic! The grits weren’t my favorite, not because they weren’t good, just that I’m not a big fan of grits. The rest of the dish was delicious! The kids liked it as well. Alex really liked the blueberry BBQ sauce that was on top as did I. We all agreed that Alqueria is on the rewind shortlist!!

No bread pudding? lol
