Adornetto’s
I’ve had Adornetto’s in mind all summer. This is a great family owned restaurant back in my hometown of Zanesville, which is about 50 min away from us. I’ve been waiting for a sunny non-rain Friday so we could cruise over in the Jeep with the top down and doors off. The weather turned out perfect on this Friday so we went for it! There was a slight chance of rain and we did have some sprinkles on the way but nothing serious.
Adornetto’s is a staple in Zanesville. I was really excited to let the kids experience this place. We arrived before the rush so we were able to get seated right away. They asked if a table was ok so we asked if they had any booths open. She said they did but it was upstairs. I didn’t think they had an upstairs so I was a bit confused but the kids saw the floor we were on and they wanted to eat there so we said a table would be fine. As we walked over to the table we saw some booths open that were like 2 steps up on the outside edge of the restaurant. We put it together that she considered that “upstairs” so as she walked away we caught her and asked if that was the “upstairs”. It was indeed and so we took a booth. You can see the couple steps from the pic I took of the tree that’s in the middle of the restaurant.
We were waited on shortly after sitting down and ordered our drinks. Unfortunately they don’t have alcohol here so it was kid friendly drinks only this week. Given that the drive was nearly an hour, I think that was for the best anyway. We went ahead and ordered some garlic bread as an appetizer to tide us over until our entrees came out. We split half and saved the other half for when our dinners came out to have with the sauce!
Adornetto’s was a great pick this week as well because I had asked Chloe earlier in the week what cuisine she wanted this week and she had picked Italian! I told them before we left that we were going somewhere further away and when we pulled off the exit for Zanesville, they realized I was taking them somewhere from my old hometown. When we were waiting for our food Chloe mentioned how it fit her Italian request! I couldn’t have planned it better. Speaking of Chloe, she was between a couple of dishes but landed on the traditional spaghetti and meatballs. I had a strong feeling this is what she would get. Meatballs are a hit and miss with her but she loved the meatballs!
When I think of Adornetto’s, I think of PIZZA!! One of the great things they offer as well are Take and Bake pizzas! So if you are ever driving through Zanesville and don’t have time to dine there, you can take one home and bake it yourself. I ended up going with some pepperoni, Italian sausage, and hot peppers. Knowing the kids weren’t getting pizza and I could have some of theirs, we all kind of traded a bit so everyone could try the pizza. The kids loved it too, which how could you not?
I wasn’t sure which direction Alex would go. Chloe is a bit more predictable than Alex is. He was tossing around a few ideas and finally landed on the lasagna! Lasagna is my favorite and is probably what I would have gotten if someone would have ordered the pizza. I was glad Alex got it so that I could try some. Surprisingly he ate all but two bites so I didn’t get much but it was delicious!!
After we left, we decided to drive around a bit. We drove by my best friend AJ’s old house as it was close and then drove by the house I grew up which wasn’t far either. The kids loved all the alley’s we drove through. Kids these days in the burbs don’t see things like that very much. Then we drove over to my old high school and there happened to be a girls soccer game going on. We sat in the lot and watched a little bit of the game. We (the Bishops) were winning!
We then drove down across the Y-bridge and parked at the little scenic pulloff and got out and checked out the waterfall. I was explaining to them how I used to walk down there and go fishing. The kids were so excited hearing my stories of growing up there and just seeing a few things. Alex said it would be a great town to grow up in and said he’d love to live there when he’s older and had a family. It was cool to hear them enjoy it so much.
Sounds like a great nostalgic trip I can see why it was a great adventure
Love that they enjoyed your hometown! ❤️
It was nice hearing that the kids like our hometown!
