Blue Agave
I normally have our Dining with Dad location picked out well in advance of the kids coming over on Sunday for the week. However this week I was slacking a bit and hadn’t come up with our destination until after the kids were here. Early in the week I had a hankering for Mexican food, specifically some good guacamole. While the kids like Mexican food, they don’t particularly care for it homemade, or in other words, an El Paso kit from Kroger!
I have been to Blue Agave once before and had tried their freshly made guacamole and absolutely loved it. It’s by far the best guacamole I’ve had at any restaurant. Being that this was the main reason I wanted to go to Blue Agave, I was hoping the kids would share the guacamole with me. When I asked Chloe, she agreed to “try it” which was good enough for me to get an order of it. Once she tried it she loved it! Alex even dove in and had quite a bit as well. I thought maybe that we’d be bring quite a bit home but we were able to finish the whole bowl!
With ladies always going first, Chloe began with her order. She likes very simple food so she went with the kids’ taco. She only gets beef and lettuce. Obviously, she makes sure to tell the server that she doesn’t want ANY cheese! She picked her side as mexican rice, which she could eat as her entire meal she loves it so much. She only got one taco in the kids portion and devoured her rice. As she appeared to still be hungry, I gave her my rice as well, which she also easily finished. She loves her rice!
Next up was Alex. Given his recent theme of ordering more exotic dishes, I wasn’t sure what he was going to pick. He went with the Arroz con Pollo, which is some chicken strips with a side of salad and rice. It was actually quite “normal” for him recently but I’m glad he chose it. He’s not the best eater, and yet he finished his plate this time. When I asked him how he like Blue Agave as he was eating, he said he’d give it 4 out of 5 stars. He said the reason it loses one star is because the menu says “your choice of dressing” and they just gave him Ranch. He laughed and quickly changed it to 5 stars!
As I mentioned when we went to El Vaquero, dishes with mexican sausage and pineapple is simply delicious. The first time I went to Blue Agave, I was able to find the Pancho Special which has these very ingredients. I’m sure I’ve mentioned before that if I try something at a restaurant and it’s great, it’s hard for me to change and get something else, in fear that I might not like it as well. Sticking to this mantra, I again got the Pancho Special. And yet again, it was absolutely delicious. Alex was the photographer and needs a little practice on not cutting people’s heads off!
I always offer the kids the option to get dessert. I pulled up the menu for Chloe who took a nice long look before asking about the Fried Ice Cream. Alex’s ears perked up as she was asking what it was exactly. Alex started telling her, “remember that time we went to Nana and Papa’s and we went to that Mexican place and got the fried ice cream?” He clearly remembered it and was excited to have it again. The only thing to decide was the optional topping, whether it was strawberry, chocolate, or honey. They went with the strawberry and it was amazing! I wasn’t going to have any but the server brought 3 spoons. I felt obligated to try it so the spoon didn’t go to waste! It was fantastic and now I’m only sad I didn’t eat more! But the kids handled it and it was quickly gone. Next time, we may have to get our own desserts!
