The Woodbury
The weather was beautiful today and the top was already down on the Jeep so I thought it would be nice to head downtown for Dining With Dad tonight and hit The Woodbury. Speaking of “hit”, we almost got hit on the way to the restaurant. Luckily I’m a defensive driver and was able to slam on the brakes and slide our way to safety. It had my heart in my throat and was racing for quite a while! It worked out great that we still were able to make it to the restaurant in time for Happy Hour so I went for a nice IPA to calm the nerves!
I had looked at the menu before going and was excited to see what the kids were going to get. The Woodbury serves breakfast all day so I was wondering if there was going to be a mix of selections between the three of us. I’ll go ahead and spoil it for everyone and let you know that none of us got any breakfast dish. But, everything looked so good, the kids want to go tomorrow for breakfast!! I think we might have to make that happen!
As I had mentioned, we did make it there in time for happy hour which didn’t end until 6pm. They had two appetizers on the happy hour menu, one which Chloe and I wanted to try, but Alex is allergic to crab. It was a Crab Rangoon dip. So we went for the “Nacho’s”, with cheese on the side. Unfortunately they forgot the “on the side” part and put the cheese right on top but Chloe found enough pieces that it didn’t bother her. And the nacho’s are not nacho’s but fries and they were fantastic!
Chloe was between a couple dishes, which I kind of expected. I even kind of knew which ones she would be trying to decide between. Ultimately she went with the Crab Cakes, which is one of her favorite dishes. I’m glad she went with that since you can’t get those just anywhere. She let me try them and they were another well made Crab Cake, with more crab than “cake”. She wasn’t a big fan of asparagus so Alex and I split that!
Alex was the closest to go for breakfast food tonight. He was going to go for the Deep Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly! I’m not sure what exactly swayed him towards the dinner entree menu instead, but he ultimately went with the Country Fried Steak. He let Chloe and I try it and WOW! All our dinners were great but his might have been the best! It was definitely the best country fried steak I’ve ever had. I was secretly hoping he’d get full and not eat it all but I wasn’t so lucky. I’d be very tempted to get that one next time instead of breakfast.
Again, I figured I’d be helpful and get the other dish that Chloe wanted. I wanted to try the Crab Cakes so I made a deal with her that I would get her second option and we could each share a bite so she could have both. So I went with the good old fashioned Meatloaf. I’m a big fan so it wasn’t really a big sacrifice. I wish it came with a bit more of the loaded potatoes as it seemed a bit light on the side dish, especially considering how Alex got an entire bowl of them!
I had just ordered another beer so I figured I’d convince the kids to get some dessert. The menu said they had Cheesecake which Chloe was excited for but apparently they don’t have that anymore. Bummer! So they went for Alex’s choice which was the Apple Fancy Pants, an apple cobbler topped with ice cream. It was tasty!! Definitely a nice alternative to cheesecake.
