KPOT
This week’s Dining with Dad was on Alex and Chloe’s mind all week. They couldn’t wait for me to wear my Phineas shirt. What is the Phineas shirt you ask? They say that one of my shirts looks just like the shirt worn by the cartoon character from “Phineas and Ferb”. Of course I had to give them their wish and I wore it. What does everyone think?
Now for the real reason you’re here, let’s move on to where this week’s Dining with Dad took place. This week we went to KPOT, which is a Korean BBQ and Hot Pot restaurant. This was scheduled months ago but we had to do a pivot because Chloe had just gone to a Korean BBQ restaurant with her friends and had a terrible time. She said it was so bad that they went to McDonalds right after it to actually eat. She didn’t get to choose the food they had and it was selected for her and after hearing her description, it sounded like it was mostly pork belly. I decided to take the risk and try KPOT, knowing that I’m sure I could pick food she would like from their menu.
Chloe was the only one of us that had been to a Korean BBQ place so we got the instructions from our server. You can do the BBQ or the Hot Pot but the entire table has to agree to which cooking style you want. If you combine, then it’s an extra $5 per person. So yes, if you had 8 people and only 1 person wanted Hot Pot and everyone else wanted BBQ, that’s an extra $40! Not sure I get that pricing model but we decided to all just do the BBQ since we’ve done Hot Pot type cooking before at The Melting Pot. The price is the same per person no matter what you order AND it’s all you can eat!
After looking through the menu, we finally decided on our first group of food. We went with (left to right) a recommendation from our server for some pork ribs (no bones and off menu selection), Prime Brisket, Spicy Salmon, Beef Bulgogi, and Garlic Chicken. For vegetables we went with Pineapple, Onions, Potatoes, and King Mushrooms. They were all so good but I think our favorites were the Beef Bulgogi and Spicy Salmon.
As we were finishing our first selection, our server came and asked if we wanted to try some other things. Of course we did! We all liked the Beef so much we got another order of that. Alex, my daring eater, decided to try the Sliced Beef Tongue. We also got some Short Ribs. Even Chloe ended up trying the tongue and was ok with it, though not her favorite. Alex and I both liked it. Our server also recommended putting the mushrooms down on the grill first and then putting the Beef Bulgogi on top of them to let the marinade soak into the mushrooms. That was a great idea and worked well.
They have a “sauce bar” with probably 15 different sauces. They also have some kimchee and other things on there. One thing they had were these little cubes of layered cake as a little dessert. They apparently had ice cream somewhere too that our server told us about after we were finished eating but we were too stuffed to even consider it. The little cakes were enough and were really good.
We were able to finish all the food we asked for. There were a couple onions left however. So of course the kids had to throw those on the grill and have a little fun while we waited for our check. This was the little creation they made which was too cute not to capture.
