Matt the Miller’s Tavern
I ran across Matt the Miller’s Tavern many months ago when I was searching for restaurants to visit. This past weekend I was looking through the list of restaurants that were taking part in the 614 Restaurant Week. I saw a few good places and then got to Matt the Miller’s and remembered I wanted to try it. I made the reservation immediately and had Dining with Dad set for the week.
We made a reservation for 5:30, which is usually a little later than we like to go but I figured we could always head out earlier if needed. Work kept me busy and so we weren’t able to get there until 5:30 today. I wasn’t sure if we needed the reservation, but clearly we did as the family in front of us talking to the hostess had to sit at the bar as there were no tables and they obviously didn’t have a reservation.
We took a look over the menu as we were waiting for our drinks. There was the main menu of course, but then they had the Restaurant Week 3 course meal for $25. You could select from four appetizers, four entrees, and two desserts. After looking at the list, Alex and I both decided to go with that option. In fact, we both chose the same appetizer, same entree, and the same dessert. That made ordering easy.
Since we were doing three courses, Chloe decided to as well, just making up her own from the main menu. For her appetizer, she went for the Chicken Noodle soup. It’s her favorite soup and she likes to get it anytime she sees it on a menu. Alex and I both got the House salad. The apricots and walnut combination was amazing! It’s one of the best salads I’ve had anywhere. I’d love to go back just for the salad.
Chloe had a bit of a hard time deciding on her entree. I pointed out the Salmon to her which she thought about but said she gets salmon alot so wanted to try something else. She finally decided on the ribs. She knew that she was having the soup, and didn’t want too much food, so she went with the 1/2 rack of ribs. They brought it out and we thought for sure it was a full rack. But when I checked the receipt at the end of the meal, it was the 1/2 rack. She still ended up bringing half of it home. That was a value!
Alex and I both went with the Pork Tenderloin. We were a little thrown when she asked how we wanted the pork cooked. She recommended medium so we went with it. I’ve never been asked that before with pork but I suppose it’s a thing with all meat now. I went with what came with the pork, but Alex switched out the asparagus with french fries. It was very tasty but maybe not good enough for me to get the same thing when I go back.
Last but not least, it was time for the dessert. As I mentioned, Alex and I ended up choosing the same dessert. We both went with the Mini Banana Cream Pie Shooter. I would have loved for it not to be mini, but it’s probably all I really needed. I told Chloe decided to get a shooter for her dessert as well. She however doesn’t like banana, so she went with the Mini Chocolate Mousse Shooter. They were both delicious!
