Flip Side
Welcome to the first Dining with Dad of 2024! We were sitting around at home talking this week and Chloe shared with Alex and I that she tried eating a hamburger for lunch at school with the bun still on it. I’m not sure if I’ve ever discussed it here, but anytime Chloe would have a hamburger, she would always just eat the patty, along with lettuce, pickle, and onion. She finally tried it again with the bun and found out she LIKES it with the bun now! To celebrate this fact, I decided to pick Flip Side this week so she could try a burger much better than the school cafeteria.
We were seated right away at a table near the back wall which was nice so the kids had a bench seat. It also gave me a front row to the TV screens! We started browsing the menus and I mentioned the milkshake section to them in case they wanted one after (or during) dinner. I think all the different burger choices were a bit overwhelming for Chloe as she was having a hard time deciding. I looked for her and recommended to her the Mikey Burger. Obviously she would get it without the cheese and she wasn’t sure about the remoulade. I wasn’t exactly positive what that was either so she Googled it and was able to see what it was. She was able to get that on the side in case she didn’t care for it. Surprisingly to me, she did end up liking the remoulade. She loved the burger which I was glad about as that opens up more restaurants that might only have burger options as a last resort.
Alex was also very indecisive on what he wanted to get. While he was hem-hawing about, I showed Chloe what I thought he might order based on all the options. So after Chloe figured out what she wanted, I asked Alex if he was ready. He wanted to know what I thought he might get but I didn’t want to persuade him away from his first option so I told him I’d show him after he selected what he wanted. He said he was getting the French Flip Burger. After telling me, I told him I thought he was going to go with the Shawn’s Burger. I know he likes fried egg on his sandwiches so that’s what drew me to that for him. When it came time to order, he surprised me when he ended up ordering……Shawn’s Burger. He also went for the Truffle fries which he actually didn’t seem to care for as he was stealing some of Chloe’s plain fries.
I was in the mood for some spice and heat so my decision was pretty easy. I went with the Chili Pepper Burger. The Firestarter burger also sounded spicy but the winning ingredient that won me over were the onion rings. Maybe I’ll try the Firestarter next time as the Chili Pepper Burger wasn’t as spicy as I was hoping for. But it was still very delicious.
After dinner it was time for milkshakes! Or maybe I should say milkshake, singular. Chloe was too full to try one and I am too fat. So this was just on Alex this time. He went with the Apple Pie Shake. Chloe and I got to at least taste his shake and it was sooo good. Only just now going back to the menu did I realize you can have alcohol added to them! Maybe I should have tried one! His would have come with some Old Forester Bourbon! Yummmm! Maybe next time!
