When I think of the Short North, I don’t think of southern BBQ. Bristol Republic is an absolute gem in the Short North. Who knew that they were smoking meats down there? I certainly didn’t. Last weekend, for “Munch’n with Megan”, I took Megan and her sister and husband (Molly and Pat) to Worthington Tavern for dinner. This was also delicious and you may see it on Dining with Dad at some point. When looking at their website, they mentioned their “sister locations” and Bristol Republic was one of them. After looking at their site for about 2 seconds, I knew this was the next Dining with Dad.

I originally had reservations for 5:30, not knowing when I would get off work. After looking at their Happy Hour deals, I knew I wanted to try to get there earlier for their 4pm – 6pm happy hour. As soon as Chloe got home from school at 4, we headed downtown. Given that I already knew I was going to have some drinks, I drove Alex’s car so that he could drive back. It’s so great having a teen driver in the house! My first drink was the smoked “Bacon & Dunn”. At 1/2 off, why not?

Bulleit Bourbon, Maple Syrup, Orange Bitters, Hickory Smoked

Chloe got her Sprite and Alex went for the lemonade. While we sipped on our drinks we took a look at the menu. I didn’t want to push them toward anything so I threw out a few different items I thought they might like. Alex mentioned very quickly about wanting the brisket. I definitely wanted that too! Chloe didn’t mention anything specifically yet so I went ahead and mentioned the “Try it All Y’all”. That would give us all a little bit of everything to try. It didn’t take long for them to both get excited about that idea and to jump on board. So this is what we ordered. You can view everything included on their menu. While we waited for that to come out, I went for round 2 (and round 3 since it was so tasty) and ordered the Whiskey Nelson.

Longbranch Bourbon, Lemon Juice, Cherry Vanilla Syrup, Angostura Bitters, Luxardo Cherries

It didn’t take too long for our platter to come out. It says it serves 2-3 people, but honestly, it can feed much more! I would change that to 3-4 people to be honest. It included 1/2 pound Hickory Smoked Wings, 1/4 Rack Texas Ribs, 1/2 Pound Pulled Pork, 1/2 pound Pulled Chicken, 1 Hot Link (sausage), Pickled Onion, Pickles, Cornbread, Saltines, Pimento Cheese. It also comes with 2 sides, which we got the Waffle Fries and the Brisket Baked Beans. Given that Alex and I both wanted brisket, we added the 1/2 pound brisket to the platter.

This was probably the best BBQ I’ve had. And I think the kids both agree. We took our time enjoying it as we took in the scenery as well. The restaurant decor was very appealing and we really loved the exposed brick walls.

We filled our bellies as much as we could and there was still quite a bit of food left. Given that the drinks were half off, I had to get just one last one! You have to take advantage of having a DD when you can! I had my eye on a couple of drinks and I already had 2 of the 3 I wanted. As my dessert, I went for the Martini McBride. Have you picked up on the theme of their drinks yet? Just another neat little feature at Bristol Republic.

Watershed Vodka, Expresso, Kahlua

With Chloe giving this a 9/10, I think this might become a rewind very soon. To be honest, I’m really wanting to check out their brunch, specifically, their chicken and waffles!! So if anyone reading this wants to do brunch soon, hit me up and I’ll be there!
