Tupelo Honey
I’ve been waiting a few weeks looking forward to this Dining with Dad. Dining with Dad has been such a hit, that Megan and I started “Dining with Megan” and I surprised her a few weeks ago with Tupelo Honey. They have a pretty decent Happy Hour there so we headed down early and got there about 4pm. While some restaurants make you sit in the bar area to get the Happy Hour deals, Tupelo Honey doesn’t do any of that nonsense so we sat in a booth in the regular dining area. We were able to chase down the Paparazzi that took our picture and get a copy for the blog (thanks Amanda!). Yes, that’s right, it’s becoming that popular!
So there’s a new feature with Dining with Dad that I’m personally very excited for. Since Alex is driving now, I can take advantage of that and use him as the driver on the way home. I keep the location top secret still which makes Dining with Dad such an exciting time for us all. But, nothing says that I need to be the one driving home! So while before I would have to limit myself on the adult beverages, I’m now free to enjoy some more. So that’s exactly what I did tonight. I started off with the Cheeky Tiki. I may have had a few of these.
My plan was to do the same that Megan and I did in that we just kept going through the appetizers and trying them, since they are only $5. But the kids weren’t too excited about most of them so we had a change in plans. Also, they started looking at the menu and saw things they really wanted so that altered things as well. We did however try the fried pickles, which you all know they love and one of my favorite items on their menu, the chicken and waffles!!
Alex was the first to decide what he wanted so we’ll start with him. He was actually teetering between a couple choices but quickly decided on the Cast Iron Pork. He went with the mac and cheese and fries as his side. As always, he didn’t eat it all so I get to enjoy it tomorrow for lunch! I did get a bite before we boxed it up and it was delicious! The sriracha added a ton of flavor to it. Alex mentioned several times how good the extra crispy french fries were.
I wasn’t quite sure what Chloe was going to choose since her goto of chicken strips wasn’t on the menu. I thought maybe she might go for the bone-in fried chicken but she went with another classic instead, the meatloaf. For her sides she ordered the extra crispy french fries as well and then ordered the “soup”. I didn’t actually look at the sides so I wasn’t sure what the soup was until it came out. It ended up being a Tortilla soup. I don’t think I’ve had that since Max and Ermas which I hadn’t been to in many many years. The soup was very tasty as was the meatloaf. The meatloaf had a bourbon sauce and after Chloe was done she pushed her plate away because she said the bourbon smell was too strong. Speaking of alcohol and for full transparency, Chloe asked if she could try my Cheeky Tiki and so I let her have a sip. She said, and I quote, “that’s the best tasting alcohol I’ve ever had!” Kids say the darnedest things!
Last but certainly not least, it was my turn to decide. I almost decided on just doing another appetizer in case the kids didn’t eat all their entree, and I would just have the rest of theirs. But then Chloe mentioned eating hers tomorrow if she didn’t finish it so I decided to get an entree as well. I wanted to get something Chloe would like in case she didn’t like her meal but that ended up not being necessary. But on Friday’s they have a “Fish Fry” which I don’t believe you’ll see on the online menu. It’s the traditional cod and comes with fries, slaw, and a biscuit. I really liked how the fish were small pieces that almost looked like Jumbo shrimp. It was well battered and very light. If you’re there on a Friday and enjoy fried fish I’d highly recommend it.
It was still Happy Hour and I had quite a few Cheeky Tiki’s, so before we left, I decided to grab one more $5 cocktail. I went with the Purple People Eater. It wasn’t as good as the Cheeky Tiki but still a good one. Definitely for $5!
If you’re ever down in Upper Arlington definitely give Tupelo Honey a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all. It’s one of my new favorites.
